    A study of myth and mythologies, ancient and modern. Gods, heroes, sex, and violence frequently in view. Emphasis on the meaning of myths in context and on cross-cultural comparison. Various ways of approaching myth considered. 60% internal assessment, 40% examination.

    Course Learning Objectives
    Students who pass this course should be able to:
    1 demonstrate familiarity with selected ancient and more recent myths;
    2 discuss the meaning various myths have in their contexts;
    3 compare myths from different times/cultures;
    4 demonstrate understanding of various theoretical approaches to myth.

    Tutorials (quizzes and one assignment) 10%
    2 Text Analysis (discussion of selected text) (1000?1200 words) 20%
    3 Essay (1500-2000 words) 30%
    4 Final Examination (TWO hours) 40%
