  • Overview

    This course aims to build on the theory developed in GIS I. Students will develop the knowledge and skills required to design and implement specialised GIS applications, and an understanding of the theory, capabilities and limitations of various spatial analysis and optimisation techniques. Awareness of graphic design, presentation methods, algorithms that are used in digital mapping and certain legal and management issues are covered. Topics include: multidimensional GIS and advanced data structures, spatial data infrastructures and metadata, distributed GIS, digital cartography, GIS application design and development using software engineering tools, GIS project management, spatial analysis, copyright and privacy issues.
