    The role of tourism in economic development
    Economic impacts of tourism - foreign exchange earnings, balance of payments, employment
    Financial leakages and ways of minimizing them
    The political economy and functional approaches to tourism and economic development
    Tourism income multipliers and cost-benefit analysis
    Case studies on tourism and economic development

    Main Outcomes:
    At the end of this module students will be able to:
    familiarize themselves with current theoretical approaches to tourism and economic development, as well as current issues
    explain the requirements for tourism to contribute to sustainable economic development
    understand the main ways of estimating the economic impacts of tourism
    use case studies,to evaluate the impact of tourism on economic development

    Pre-requisites: Geography 111; Geography 121
    Co-requisites: Tourism 211
