PURPOSE
The purpose of this module is to establish a theoretical basis for learners on:
Soil Chemistry;
Soil Physics;
Soil Biology;
Soil formation and classification;
Soil fertility.LEARNING OUTCOMES
Understand soil as a suitable growth medium.
Understand the importance of clay minerals and other soil constituents.
Illustrate an understanding between cation exchange capability and soil fertility.
Comprehend the importance of Soil reaction in relation to soil fertility.
Understand the principles of soil reaction.
Understand and manage brackish soils and water.
Illustrate an understanding of the living organisms in the soil and it role in soil fertility.
Explain the influence of C/N ratio and the basic decomposition process on soil fertility.
