    Syllabus

    PURPOSE
    This module will prepare students in developing a thorough understanding of electrical engineering principles and procedures primarily in the analysis of ac circuits within an engineering environment.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES
    The student should be able to:

    • communicate an understanding of the established fundamental principles, concepts and terminology within ac networks;
    • analyze various ac circuits that contain series, parallel and series-parallel RLC elements by the selection, synthesis and implementation of the established principles, procedures and practices;
    • analyze various ac series and parallel RLC circuits in terms of resonance;
    • establish the parameters for, and implement the principles, procedures and practices for single phase power factor correction;
    • establish the parameters for, and implement the fundamental principles and operation of single phase transformers;
    • establish the parameters for, and implement the principles, procedures and practices relevant to complex waveforms;
    • establish the parameters for, and implement the principles, procedures and practices relevant to three phase circuits;
    • establish the parameters for, and implement the principles and procedures for analyzing dc and ac circuits using the various network theorems.
