    Syllabus

    PURPOSE
    The purpose of this module is to equip students with essential knowledge and skills to actually implement environmental management systems.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES
    After completion of this module, students will:

    demonstrate that they have detailed and integrated knowledge of theory and relevant methods at the forefront of the field of environmental management systems;
    demonstrate that they can apply such theory and methods to the solution of actual and unfamiliar problems relevant to the field of environmental management systems;
    demonstrate that they have the ability to use and apply a range of specialised methods to address complex problems by formulating and implementing an actual environmental management system in totality.

    Industrial environmental management.
    Introduction to environmental management systems.
    Environmental policy formulation.
    Environmental aspects and impacts.
    Carbon foot-printing.
    Environmental management systems ? related legislation.
    Implementing environmental management systems.

    Evaluation criteria
    One comprehensive environmental management system - formulated according to the ISO 14001 standard and implemented in an existing industrial context.
    One 3-hour formal examination during the November examination period.
