    Syllabus

    PURPOSE
    To facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and practical skills relating to the legal aspect of environmental law.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES
    Students will be able to:

    describe the international framework within which environmental law is taking place;
    describe the legislative framework within which environmental law is taking place;
    explain the legal aspect of environmental law;
    identify legal issues relating to environmental law;
    identify and address compliance and enforcement challenges in the process of environmental law.

    CORE CONTENT
    The Constitution and the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998.
    International environmental law.
    Water law and the environment.
    Conservation of biodiversity.
    Pollution control and waste management.
    Land use and planning.
    Implementation and administration of environmental law.

    Evaluation criteria
    1 x 2-hour examination, 40% class mark + 60% examination mark.
