Syllabus
PURPOSE
To introduce students to a range of numeracy skills and their applications in the world of business.LEARNING OUTCOMES
The student will demonstrate competence in- recognising, describing and working confidently with numbers and number relations;
- estimating, calculating and verifying calculations both mentally and with the use of calculators;
- recognising, describing and dealing with numerical, graphical, verbal and symbolic representations;
- solving business-related problems and equations by applying knowledge of statistics and probability.
CORE CONTENT
- Basic calculations with whole numbers, fractions and decimal numbers, percentages, rounding off and approximations.
- Changing the subject of formulae.
- Basic calculator skills.
- Substitution into formulae.
- Ratio, proportion, measurement and units of measure.
- Reading off of scales.
- Plotting of linear graphs.
- Introduction to statistics, graphical representation of statistical results and statistical analyses of grouped and ungrouped data.
- Frequency distributions.
- Measures of central location for ungrouped data.
- Measures of central location for grouped data.
- Determine mean of ungrouped data.
- Interpretation of statistical information.
