    Syllabus

    PURPOSE
    This module will integrate theory and practical components of plant ecology, specifically sampling methods and population models.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES
    After completion of this module, students should:

    • be aware of the relationships that link plants to each other and to their environment;
    • have some experience in writing scientific papers as well as extracting and summarising relevant information from ecological papers;
    • be aware of the different sampling methods used in plant ecology and be able to select the best sampling method for a particular vegetation type;
    • have basic knowledge to be able to use population models as a tool for predicting changes to populations;
    • know the basics of population and community ecology and be able to build on these subjects during later modules.
