PURPOSE
This module will prepare students to understand the various theories of political economy and how such theories can be applied to understand the South African Political Economy.LEARNING OUTCOMES
Develop an understanding of the concept of political economy.
Develop an understanding of the development of the South African State and economy.
Critically apply this understanding to the contemporary South African political economy.
Develop skills of independent research and critical thinking in relation to social and political problems facing South Africa.CORE CONTENT
-Introduction to political economy.
-Background of the South African Political Economy.
-Development trends in South African Political Economy.
-Political development in Post -Apartheid South African Political Economy.Evaluation criteria
This module will be assessed during an examination in June/July.
1 x 2-hour examination, 50% class mark + 50% examination mark.
