Syllabus
PURPOSE
To develop Xhosa communicative skills in the context of the theme GETTING ACQUAINTED.LEARNING OUTCOMES
In this module, the student will be expected to learn:- how to greet another;
- how to enquire after someone?s health;
- how to introduce yourself;
- how to respond to the above;
- how to establish where someone lives;
- how to establish where someone comes from;
- how to establish where someone is going to;
- some everyday complaints;
- some terms of address;
- how to bid someone farewell;
- a variety of everyday phrases;
- relevant everyday vocabulary.
Based on this information, the student will be required to write a brief autobiography in Xhosa.
CORE CONTENT
- Dialogues with embedded phrases pertaining to the above outcomes.
- Relevant everyday vocabulary.
- The subject links for ?I?, ?You?, ?He / She? etc.
- Expressing obligation using ?Kufuneka? [must].
- Using the questioning words:
- phi? [where?];
- ndawoni? [where exactly?];
- njani? [how?];
- ntoni? [what?].
- Exercises to develop the intended language skills.
