  • Overview

This course takes a closer and deeper look at two of the world's most beloved authors, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, who were both academics at Oxford. We will study the background to their famous fantasy sequences and children's fiction, through attention to their other fiction and scholarly writings, their study of medieval literature, and their participation in the Oxford reading and discussion group called the 'Inklings'. This two-week course invites you to discover the roots and sources of the imaginative worlds of Narnia and Middle Earth through the place and people which gave rise to them.
