  • Overview

    Explores the theory, practice and comparative organization of political institutions such as electoral systems and voter behaviour, political parties and parliaments, governments and policy, civil and public service.

    Learning Outcomes:

    On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:
    -Detail the major theories and key concepts used by sociologists to analyse
    -Critically assess social scientific evidence and argument exploring the social, cultural and ideological aspects of political institutions such as electoral systems and voter behaviour, political parties and parliaments, governments and policy, civil and public service.
    -Evaluate the empirical trends and patterns identified by social scientists examining the practice and comparative organization of political institutions.
    -Develop an independent and critical perspective on the social scientific analyses of the theory and practice of political institutions.
