    What Is This Course?

    This course consists of four separate areas of application of Mathematical Modelling. The approach taken is to develop the appropriate mathematical and computational techniques required to model and analyse various real world problems. The course is available in semester II only.

    Lecture Information

    This course is offered in Semester II only. The following four topics are covered:

    * Queuing Theory and Markov Chains
    * Random Number Generators and Monte Carlo Methods
    * Discrete and Continuous Population Models
    * Competitive Species Models including the Lotka-Volterra Model.

    Students are expected to attend one weekly two hour Maple practicals where various aspects of these topics are illustrated. No previous experience with Maple programming is required.
