  • Overview

    From Angry Birds to Call of Duty, video games have become a hugely significant part of our culture. This course provides an introduction to the multidisciplinary subject of game studies, including a history of the video games industry and an overview of how games are developed and marketed, and considers the wider cultural impact of the video game.
    This course aims to offer an introduction to the multidisciplinary subject of game studies. Students will gain an understanding of:
    • The history of video game medium and associated industry;
    • The basic aspects of game design and development;
    • How the games industry works, including current and emerging trends;
    • Video games place in academia and serious games;
    • The positive and negative outcomes associated with games.
