Overview
This course examines feminist film theory from the 1970s to the present with a particular focus on the intersections between feminist film theory, feminist and women's filmmaking and feminist politics. Issues of gender, sexuality and race will be kept in focus throughout. The screening programme will provide students with an opportunity to view a variety of films by women, raising questions relating to authorship, spectatorship, identity and women's place in film's history and present, as well as to re-evaluate some male "classics" through the lens of feminist film theory.
