  • Overview

    This course concerns the policies and principles, practices and actions through which landscape heritage is characterised and assessed; handled in conservation, planning and management contexts; and worked into the delivery of concrete social, cultural, economic and environmental gains. The course provides an opportunity for learning and reflection concerning the contribution of heritage to the landscapes of the future.
    This course aims to provide students with the opportunity to:
    • develop knowledge of the contribution which heritage can make to the landscapes of the future, and understand how that contribution might be theorised and realised;
    • learn about the current state of historic landscape theory and practice, in the UK and more widely in Europe;
    • engage with national and international policy on heritage and landscapes, and emerging and future trends in policy and its implementation;
    • explore the relationship between research and practice in this field;
    • develop skills for careers in relevant areas of research, practice or public administration.
