    This module explores some of the main trends and developments in United States history during the
    nineteenth century. After examining the creation of US political institutions it proceeds to study in more
    depth: Slavery and Antebellum Southern Society; the Civil War and Reconstruction; The American West.
    Emphasis is placed upon political and social history.
