  • Overview

The module aims to achieve the following objectives. First it is to analyse the process of economic growth,
reviewing alternative approaches with a view to attaining a greater understanding of the diverse experiences
of different economies, and suggesting policy implications; secondly, it is to extend the IS-LM analysis of
monetary and fiscal policy to confront problems of policy design, long-run debt constraints, credibility and
targeting; thirdly, it is to extend the IS-LM and AS-AD model to an open economy context, enabling analysis
of exchange rate determination, monetary and fiscal policy in an open economy, and the implications of
alternative exchange rate regimes; finally, it is to analyse the Great Recession.
