Overview
This module draws on a mix of sociological, philosophical and criminological texts to explore the practices andinstitutions of punishment, introduce the major theoretical traditions established by Durkheim, Marx, Weberand Foucault, and to use these frameworks to analyse the central components of the criminal justice system:the police, the criminal courts, prisons and the supervision of community penalties.
