Overview
This course examines the theoretical and practical issues surrounding the use of IT in business. It looks at thecurrent `state of the art' on IT, and examines its impact on the world of work. In addition, you will develop practical skills of using the internet, multimedia, database and spread sheet packages. The course starts by considering a number of strategic issues. These include the management of new technology for competitive advantage, the nature of innovation, and managing advanced manufacturing systems. Case studies are used to illustrate expert systems, the nature of machine intelligence, and IT in the financial services sector. Finally, the course investigates the use of IT to gain competitive advantage. It will both develop your IT skills and give you a greater understanding of the impact of IT on business.
