    BLOQUE FORMATIVO AL QUE PERTENECE LA MATERIA.
    Economics of Innovation is part of the training that students are taught in the area of Foundations of Economic Analysis.

    PAPEL DE LA ASIGNATURA.
    The course provides training in a subject, social studies on innovation, which is not systematically degree in Economics

    PERFIL PROFESIONAL.
    Training of consultants and managers of innovation in business and public administration bodies.

    RECOMENDACIONES PREVIAS
    The subject is taught as a seminar, with small groups and continuous interaction between teacher and students and among students themselves.

    The student must be accustomed to finding information on the Internet and the use of basic tools and techniques of oral presentation of papers and discussionsin the seminar.

    The entire program is taught in English, so students should be familiar with basic grammar and oral and written use of this language.

    OBJETIVO DE LA ASIGNATURA
    The basic objective is that students grasp the importance of innovation for businesses and public administrations. This is done by transmitting information todate on the subject, the debate and the presentation of works by students in the seminar.The realization of the seminar in English is added in order to offer students an international context of the debate in which it is obliged to express them in thislanguage, resulting familiarity in the use of this widespread international communication tool and overcoming a major barrier affecting Spanish students.

    For this reason, it is considered a high priority to enroll the ERASMUS students from other European countries in this course of Economics of Innovation.

    TEORÍA.
    The content delivered in 2016-2017 is listed below. Each year this content can vary depending on what is most current in the field and of most interest tothe student.

    The first part of the Seminary is about concepts, basic measurements and countries/regions on innovation.

    Countries and Regions Lessons 

    • What are Innovation and Scientific Research and Experimental Development (R&D)?.
    • How are measured Innovation and R&D?.
    • How is constituted an innovation system?.

    Country and Region Processes

    • Teacher’s presentations: Basic concepts, measures and systems.
    • Tutorship.
    • Student’s presentations: Innovation in countries or regions.

    Country and Region Work

    • Student’s presentations: Innovation in countries or regions.
      • General description of the country or region selected by the student.
      • Indicators of Innovation in the country or region.
      • Example of innovation in the country or region.

    The second part of the Seminary is about innovation policies with special emphasis on smart specialization.

    • Horizon 2020: new framework programme for research and innovation in the EU.
    • Smart Specialization in the Cohesion Policy of the EU: support for regions in building up their research and innovation capacity.
    • Innovation and Entrepreneurial Discovery Process (EDP): empirical detection of innovation and EDP in companies, as cornerstone of SmartSpecialization Strategy.

    European Policy Process

    • Teacher’s presentations: H2020, Smart Specialization and Entrepreneurial Discovery Process.
    • Tutorship.
    • Student’s presentations: Case Study of a company facing innovation and EDP.

    European Policy Work

    •  Student’s presentations: Case Study of a company facing innovation and EDP.
      • General description of the company.
      • Preparation of the company for innovation.
      • Contribution of the company to EDP.

    BÁSICAS / GENERALES.
    Mastering the model class taught by seminar, with active participation in discussions, submission of works and information management without notes.

    ESPECÍFICAS.
    Capture the value and importance of innovation as a basis for the conduct of business in the most competitive economies in the world.

    TRANSVERSALES.
    Get used to an international context of work, use of English as a communication tool and intense interaction with ERASMUS students from other Europeancountries

    METODOLOGÍAS
    The teaching method used in Economics of Innovation is as follows.

    1. Active Class. The seminar is based on two inseparable elements, which are, on the one hand, the presentation of topics by the teacher and, secondly, theresponse and active participation of students with development of works directed by the teacher and public presentation of results, including the debate onthe above result.
    2. Participatory seminar. The subject is taught as a seminar, with small groups, slideshow, discussion contents and public presentation of work by students.English is used as communication tool.
    3. Tutorials: The tutorial aims to provide students mastering the contents of the subject and give guidance on carrying out work.

    CRITERIOS DE EVALUACIÓN.ASSESMENT OF THE SEMINAR

    10 Total Points

    •  Attendance at the Seminar: 1 point.
    • Country/Region Presentation: 2 points.
    • Company Presentation: 3 points.
    • Exam: 4 Points.

    Exam

    • Written exam.
    •  Questions about selected pages of the Seminar documents.

    INSTRUMENTOS DE EVALUACIÓN.
    No alternative is considered to be evaluated in the course; the attendance and participation in the seminar is mandatory. Students who, for whateverreason, can not attend the sessions of the Seminar not enroll in the course of Economics of Innovation is recommended.

    RECOMENDACIONES PARA LA EVALUACIÓN.
    The recovery, if any, is made on the condition of attendance and participation in the seminar.
