Overview
COURSE OBJECTIVE
After completion of the course the student has:
• knowledge about what communication science is, and how it is positioned in the scientific field;
• knowledge about the primary concepts, theories and working mechanisms in communication science and is able to apply this to explain phenomena;
• knowledge about different perspectives on the relation between media and the public;
• knowledge about the media landscape;
• knowledge about media economics, laws and regulations.COURSE CONTENT
The course Introduction to Communication Science is specifically designed for students who have no background in communication science. The course offers students a broad introduction to communication theory by introducing a wide variety of theories that can be perceived as “the classics” and providing students with an integrative perspective on the field. After completion, students should understand the theories, know the research that supports it, see useful applications in their lives, and be aware of the theory’s possible flaws.TEACHING METHODS
