  • Overview

    COURSE OBJECTIVE
    The aim of this course is to gain knowledge on backgrounds and methods in foreign language teaching, to apply didactic models and to judge teaching materials from a critical point of view. The competences you will gain during the course deal with the analysis of teaching methods for French, German, Spanish or English, the formulation of advices for educational practices and designs of teaching materials. Besides these competences, you will gain academic skills related to oral presentations and peer-feedback.

    COURSE CONTENT
    Focus on: different perspectives on the acquisition and instruction of foreign languages, historical and recent perspectives on language
    teaching, analysis of teaching materials. Each student will analyse an educational method for French, German, Spanish or English with a focus on seven topics: organisation of exercises, reading skills, writing skills, speaking skills, listening skills, vocabulary, and grammar.
    These topics are integrated in the assignments to be handed in. Students are also supposed to give a presentation on one of the mentioned topics and to design a syllabus, aimed at improving of the previously analysed teaching method.

    TEACHING METHODS
    Lectures and workshops with presentations (in total 2 x 2 hours per week).

    TYPE OF ASSESSMENT
    Weekly assignments, integrated in the syllabus. Both the syllabus and the assignments will consist of 50% of the final grade and must be
    awarded at least 5.5 each.
