Overview
COURSE OBJECTIVE
At the end of the course the student has mastered a basic knowledge of the Syriac language (orthography, phonology, morphology, syntax) and is able to read some ”easy” original Syriac texts independently.COURSE CONTENT
After a short introduction into the history of the Syriac language, the student is introduced step by step into the Syriac language. Special attention is paid to the salient linguistic features of the Semitic languages (which include Syriac, Hebrew, Arabic) in comparison with, for example, Indo-European languages.TEACHING METHODS
Seminar. Discussion of exercises that the students have to prepare in advance.TYPE OF ASSESSMENT
Final written examination. Three diagnostic tests during the course so that the student can monitor her or his progress
