Styles of Philosophy II: Analytic Philosophy

COURSE OBJECTIVE
• Students will learn about the origins, historical development, characteristic features, and diversity of the methods of analytic philosophy in several of the major subfields of philosophy.
• Students will learn to recognize and employ characteristically analytic methods.
• Students will become familiar with some of the criticisms of the methods of analytics philosophy and replies to those criticisms. • Students will be able to recognize and employ analytical methods in metaphysics, and epistemology.
• Students will be able to reflect critically on the possibilities and limitations of analytic methods, also in comparison to the ‘continental style’ of doing philosophy.
• Students will improve their writing and presentation skills.

COURSE CONTENT
This course offers a presentation of the analytic approach to doing philosophy through the intensive study of texts representing the analytic style.
