    Description of Structural Design

This course will study bending design concepts, diagonal tension, torsion, columns, foundations, and detailed anchoring reinforcement deflections calculation, evaluation and slabs side loads in two directions of the structural elements of reinforced concrete, and give basic methods and formulations for diagnosis and design, according to modern theories consistent with the Reglamento Colombiano de Construcción Sismo Resistente (NSR-10).

    Course Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

    1. Evaluating, combining and applying dead loads, live, wind and seismic.
    2. Understand and apply safety factors and limit states.
    3. Design and review flexural rectangular beams, I and T.
    4. Design and revise rectangular shear beams, I and T.
    5. Flexural and shear design solid slabs and lightened in one direction.
    6. Understand and make cuts, anchors and overlaps of beams, columns and footings.
    7. Calculate and verify beam deflections.
    8. Understand and calculate the torque design rectangular beams.
    9. Construct interaction diagrams for columns.
    10. Design and revise short and slender columns.
    11. Evaluating, combining and applying dead loads, live, wind and seismic.
    12. Calculate and design footings with or without moments.
    13. Calculate and design foundation combined plate and inverted T types.
    14. Understanding the behavior of two-way slabs.
    15. Express in graphical, oral and written the results of a structural design.
