Overview
This module is aimed at exploring the contribution of a range of models of mental illness including the
biomedical, psychodynamic and psychosocial approaches. It will become evident that psychiatric nurses may use a
range of therapeutic approaches to promote thier clients recovery and to inform their practice. Students will
be able to critically evaluate the merits and demerits of a particular approach in particular
circumstances/contexts. Particular attention is give to the concept of recovery and empowerment and how nurses
may use these therapeutic interventions to promote the service user's recovery and well being.
