Public International Law

Public International Law can be broadly defined as the legal framework of International Relations. Such legal framework is composed by rules, principles and customs intended to regulate the behavior of international actors. Businesses as well as national and international governmental and civil society actors increasingly rely on the regulatory frameworks provided by Public International Law, and for that reason, every professional aimed at working in the international arena needs to study the foundations and developments of this particular branch of law. Understanding the rationale and dynamics of Public International Law can only be possible with a careful study of its origins, its evolving nature, and the characteristics of the subjects whose actions are meant to be regulated. As this course is aimed at International Business students interested in international relations, it focuses in key legal challenges for current global issues associated with trade and development. In this sense, this course intends to provide students with analytical tools to critically evaluate the impact of such fields in international economic relations. Therefore, an exhaustive analysis of all the areas and branches of Public International Law is beyond the scope of this course.
